Get involved with Service Opportunities in St. Paul's Summer of Suppers!
by the Rev. Erin Morey
We are so excited about St. Paul's Summer of Suppers! There are two streams of events, one focused on fellowship, and the second focused on outreach and justice around food insecurity. There are many opportunities to get involved in the life of our community through service and learning over the course of the next few months, and I look forward to you signing up to join in this work.
We have opportunities to learn about the reality of food insecurity in our region. We have numerous opportunities to cook and serve meals, to prepare meal kits to be shared by families, support moms raising young children in challenging circumstances, and much, much more. There are many ways to participate, for people of all ages. These projects are a great way for entire families, including young children, to live into God's call for us to love one another.
We do not just do the work of caring for our community because it is a nice thing to do. We do this work because it is central to our life of faith, and central to who God has created us to be as human beings. In Matthew 25, Jesus tells us that community care is what the fullness of the Kingdom of God looks like. He reminds us that when we feed the most vulnerable and hungry in our midst, we are actually experiencing connection with God: "for I was hungry and you gave me food ... Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did it to me."
Please take a look at the projects listed below, decide how you are called to serve, and sign up! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at erin@stpaulspgh.org.
